Bio of L Jermaine (LJ) Shelby

Working in various capacities of Workforce Development in the technology, call center and non-profit industries since 1984, LJ started with SkillPoint Alliance (formerly the Capital Area Training Foundation) as a volunteer and redirected his assets to lead in setting up a second site from the ground up under the U.S. Department of Education; Digital Divide Initiative. LJ’s final position was Director of Operations for the entire program.

While at B.C. Harris Publishing/Harris Connect (the nation’s largest publisher of alumni directories), LJ developed and implemented a national management and employee sales training program for the company. LJ has also performed extensive national trainings through his work with CTCnet (an international non-profit organization with over 1200 members worldwide) and National Seminars Group, Padget-Thompson, having presented instruction on a wide range of leadership topics.

Alliance Work Partners, a non-profit EAP (Employee Assistance Program), LJ led workforce development training and consultation designed to improve and enhance employee, manager/supervisor, and executive leadership skills, serving over 400 clients in the public and private sectors. LJ also worked extensively with city, county and states agencies across Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

LJ has also served on several boards dealing with community, education and technology. As Co-Chair of the Austin Partners in Education’s Technology Initiative for Austin Independent School District, LJ helped recruit local businesses to support technology on school campuses Here, LJ lead fund raising to total more than a half million dollars from various companies in a two year time period.

LJ is the owner of LJ Smith Enterprises Inc, a company which focuses on professional and personal development. At of LJ Smith Enterprises Inc, LJ provides consultations, coaching sessions and trainings to all levels in communication, team building and leadership. LJ has also provided trainings for e-commerce, technology planning, budgeting for technology, internet navigation, and web accessing. In addition, LJ led projects in curriculum development and improving resources for trainers. As a contractor with EnterAbility, Inc. in partnership with SER Jobs for Progress and the Department of Education, LJ developed and provide training for the elderly to become employed with CVS Pharmacies. Too, LJ worked with Consolidated Safety Services, teaching “Rebuilding Healthy Homes” a HUD program, designed to educate Hurricane Katrina victims on how to clean up their homes after a hurricane. At Leader Nu, LJ currently works as a consultant, life coach and facilitator; delivering leadership programs based on The Shelby Principle; a foundational program for life and leadership.

LJ’s community involvement includes, Board Member and Co-Chair Technology Committee Austin Partners in Education; Mayor appointed, Council Chair, City of Austin, HIV Strategic Planning Council and much more. LJ received undergraduate training in Civil Engineering and Architecture, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX and earned a Certificate in Electronic Technology from Durham Business and Technical College, Austin, TX. LJ also studied Engineering Graphics, Austin Community College, Austin, TX and secured an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts, Alvin College, Alvin, TX. LJ earned a Certificate in Microcomputer Technology, Matrix Training Division, Austin, TX; a Certificate in Accelerated Learning, Integral Learning Systems 2000, University of Houston, TX. LJ is a Certified Diversity Trainer, NCBI, Austin, TX, LJ completed a Certified Public Managers Program, Texas State University, San Marcos, TX. He attended a Sandler Sales Training Boot Camp, Austin TX. LJ is also a Certified Life Coach, International Coaching Science Research Foundation, Atlanta Ga. and a Non-Violence Intervention Specialist, CPI – Atlanta, GA.
